Delbrueck, September 10, 2019 – Artega is presenting its electric city car Karo to the world for the first time at the International Motor Show (IAA) today. The light motor vehicle is the all-electric rebirth of the cult micro „bubble“ cars of the 1950s, whose design served as orientation for the Karo. Artega offers the Karo in four trim levels. These can be customized and ordered from the beginning of October 2019 via www.dasautochen.de. Deliveries of the first available special edition „Intro“ will already start this year.
„The Karo is the perfect car for the environmentally conscious city dweller,“ says Klaus Dieter Frers, Managing Director of Artega. „With the Karo, we offer a stylish, affordable and sustainable solution for urban traffic. The ‚Autochen‘, as we affectionately call our Karo, runs emission-free and is manufactured completely climate neutral in Delbrück. This is how we make the air cleaner and the inner cities more colourful.“
Karo available in four trim levels
The Karo, which was originally intended to be called „Karolino“, is available in four basic versions: „Intro“, „Classic“, „Style“ and „Edition“. Drive technology and chassis are identical in all versions. As a result, the vehicles reach a top speed of 90 kilometres per hour. The dead weight is only 514 kilograms with a trunk capacity of 300 litres. Using the online configurator, customers can also individually determine the technical specifications and appearance of their car.
With the launch, Artega presents the „Intro“ as a special edition of 500 vehicles in two series. In terms of material and design, they feature the signature of the company founder. In addition, the „Intro“ bears his signature and an individual numbering. The model is available in two special colours and an exclusive velour/cotton finish. Both features are identical to the Artega GT Intro from 2009. The limited special edition „Intro“ costs 18,500 Euro plus 19% VAT (21,995 Euro gross). For some several hundred vehicles, expressions of interest are already declared.
The „Classic“ model is the competitive-priced version of the Karo with a base price of 11,995 Euro plus 19% VAT (14,275 Euro gross). The versions „Style“ – base price 13,440 Euro plus 19% VAT (15,995 Euro gross) – and „Edition“ upgrade the vehicle with further features in the interior and exterior design. The „Edition“ model variant starts at a price of 15,120 Euro plus 19% VAT (17,995 Euro gross) and is additionally available in three seasonal special colours.
As an option, all models can have a larger battery, which extends the range from around 125 kilometres to 200 kilometres. Series production and delivery of the „Classic“, „Style“ and „Edition“ models will start in 2020. A down payment of 2,500 euros is due for each order, which is covered by a guarantee from a renowned insurance company.
Equipment: Interior and exterior design customizable
For the exterior, the customer has the choice between five monochrome and multi-colour special paintings and four different rim options. In addition, customers can equip the models with an exterior sound generator from paragon for increased road safety. The interior can be configured with smartphone integration including EDWIN, paragon’s speech assistant based on artificial intelligence, a sound system or textile floor mats. Numerous product-related services such as a charging wall box including installation and „green electricity“ or a leasing and insurance offer complete the package.
The Karo belongs to vehicle class L7e, which comprises light, four-wheeled vehicles powered by an electric motor. Artega has had experience in developing vehicles of this class since 2013. In addition, Artega relies on its many years of expertise in the field of electric sports cars for the development and production of the body, as well as on its cooperation with the German car electronics manufacturer paragon and its subsidiary Voltabox, a market leader in the field of electric mobility.
First appearance at IAA’s New Mobility World
The Karo will have its first major appearance from September 10 to 15, 2019 at the New Mobility World of IAA in Frankfurt, booth B08 in hall 5.0. The New Mobility World is a platform of IAA that has been developed since 2015 to exchange ideas on the mobility of the future. Its focus lies on digitisation, decarbonisation and new forms of mobility.
A start date for local sales support and a test drive at the Delbrueck brand centre will be announced soon. Customers are given the opportunity of an exclusive factory tour; quality „Made in Germany“ can thus be experienced live. Starting with Germany, Artega is gradually building up a Europe-wide dealer and workshop network.
Further information and impressions of the Karo can be found on the official website: www.dasautochen.de
Artega always has one goal in mind: intelligent mobility of the future.
The starting point of the company’s history was the German sports car Artega GT, 153 of which have been produced and which continues to generate a positive response among experts and car enthusiasts. In the current Scalo Elletra T/C sports car project, Artega is showing the spectacular „Rolling Chassis“ at the IAA in September.
The owner of Artega is the Frers family. Managing director Klaus Dieter Frers has been successfully active in the automotive supplier industry for over 30 years. He is the great-great-great-grandson of the inventor of the electric car, Christopher Becker, who developed a vehicle in 1835 that was powered by an electric motor and is now regarded as the first step towards the electric car.
